Getting the Registration Token for Licensing

Licensing for Cisco Modeling Labs 2.x uses Cisco Smart Licensing. During the initial set up of your CML server installation, you need to register the installation with your Smart Licensing Virtual Account. You must license your CML server before you can start any labs or nodes in CML.

This page simply shows you where to find the Smart Licensing registration token for your CML server, depending on the product offering you purchased. The registration token should be pasted into the dialog on the Licensing page of the CML UI. The detailed instructions for licensing CML are covered in Licensing.

“Personal” CML Offerings

Smart Licensing details are mostly hidden from CML-Personal users. Since many CML-Personal customers do not have a Smart Account of their own, CML-Personal 2.x licenses are placed in a special virtual account that is owned by the CLN Store. Even if you have a Cisco Smart Account, your Smart License for CML-Personal will not be visible there. Follow these instructions to copy your registration token for CML-Personal:

  • Visit the Cisco Learning Network Store in your web browser.

  • Login with the CCO user ID that you used to purchase CML.

  • Click the My Account link.

  • Find your active CML order in your My Orders list.

  • Click the View License(s) button to view the registration token that corresponds to that CML order.

  • Copy the registration token for use in CML Licensing.

All Other CML Offerings

These offerings include CML-Enterprise. When you purchase CML, one or more licenses will be deposited into a Smart Licensing Virtual Account, which is with a Smart Account. Depending on whether or not you are part of a larger company, a given Smart Licensing Account may have many Virtual Accounts or just a single Virtual Account. Think of a Smart Licensing Account as an organization with Virtual Accounts as the users within that organization. You may need to ask your organization’s Smart Account administrator for assistance or to determine which Virtual Account contains your CML licenses.

To get your registration token for use in CML Licensing, you need to generate a registration token in the Virtual Account that contains your CML licenses.

  • Log into the Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM) web portal with a CCO ID that has access to the correct Smart Licensing Virtual Account.

  • In the CSSM portal, click Inventory.

  • Once the inventory loads, click the Virtual Account drop down, and select the correct Virtual Account.

  • Check the Licenses tab to confirm that the CML licenses are listed in the selected Virtual Account’s inventory.

  • Click the General tab.

  • On the General page for the Virtual Account, click the New Token.. button to create a new product instance registration token.

  • Once you have created a registration token, copy the token for use in CML Licensing.
